Hi momMD,

Even though you are seeing yellow vs grey, I suspect you may be dealing with the same issue I describe in my post. Over time, I noticed that the pattern was for my teeth to develop a strong yellow shortly before the grey set in. The techniques I ultimately used may work for you. I have not had this issue in ages now. I still believe this to be a matter of bacterial shift/die-off.

All my best,
Baden

i have slowly transitioned to a nourishing traditions diet over a span of 3 years- been on grass fed beef for over 2 years, use liberal amounts of coconut oil and good fats, don't drink raw milk or use raw butter yet (been on a dairy free/gluten free diet for longer). I started taking CLO/butter oil about 1.5 months ago and started making bone broth this month. I have started oil pulling - very intermittently, on and off once a day in the past month. I do use Toms of Maine fluoride toothpaste for now.

About a week or two ago, I just noticed my teeth, especially near the gum line, has turned yellow! it's not uniformly yellow, it almost looks as if my saliva is staining the teeth that is coming to contact with it.

I have to get a dental mirror to see if my upper teeth have also turned YELLOW, or just my lower teeth. If it is just the lower teeth, then it is more likely related to saliva, if saliva more often comes into contact with the lower teeth. I have NEVER seen this in my teeth before!!!

Anyone else notice this phenomenon? My teeth are not gray, but YELLOW!

I don't drink anything but water and bone broth, I haven't eaten chocolate in the last month. No beets either. I have eaten a lot of blueberries but those stains wash off when I rinse my mouth.

Thank you, Baden! I thought I had read Dr. Natasha say somewhere about why pasteurized milk was bad and should be avoided. (It is dead). However, after thinking about it, I realize that the milk is simply a conduit for the good bacteria from yogurt to grow, so can be made alive again in a beneficial way for those who cannot access raw milk as I am now blessed with!

Today was milk pickup day, and as we were sick part of the week and didn't use much of last week's raw milk (we get 1.5 gallons of cow and 1/2 gallon of goat per week at the moment), I made 3 quarts of yogurt in the dehydrator yesterday and let it cook for 24 hours. Since it was a little old, I heated it to 150, let it cool to 75 and then added the cultures. Like you said, it was definitely thicker this way. I set the Excalibur dehydrator at 110, and I think that may have been a little high. Might lower to 105 next time.

Prior to chiming in on future topics, I'm going to read the books first! I just received the GAPS book by Dr. Natasha, as well as the Internal Bliss cookbook. I bought them both from Amazon. :) We are going to ease into this diet as we deplete our pantry of once-considered-healthy-but-not-GAPS-friendly items over the next couple of months. Probably go 100% after my wife finishes breastfeeding and we return from our vacation in late August.

We also have access to an amazing store 1/2 mile from our house where I get grassfed beef, bison, elk, etc... as well as pasture-raised chickens. I have my own backyard flock for eggs, and a large organic garden.

AND, we have another fish market close by, and my friends who work there are giving me all of the FREE fresh red snapper (or salmon, or anything else I want) carcasses and heads. I made the first fish stock the other day. It will take some getting used to, but my wife loves it. :)

To say it briefly, let's do this!!!! :)

Thank you for having this website, and helping people with GAPS. While I have not read the book, I get the feeling I'm getting ready to discover the remaining pieces of the puzzle I've been trying to solve for 15 years regarding my health recovery!

Hi Ari,

Many baked goods will do well without the soda, just as or almost as well as with.

Also, you might want to look at some of the GAPS-specific recipes. Many people in the community are amazing recipe-developers! Here is a link to many: http://gapsguide.com/2009/03/06/scd-recipes/

All my best,

Hi Susan,

Sorry for the delay in responding!

A funeral is a very emotional time, of course, and emotional events can be the most difficult times to stay the course. I would just start at the stage you left off at, and carry on. If symptoms persist at that stage, only then perhaps consider starting at Stage 1 again. Each time you start from Stage 1, though, your body will likely be able to move through the progression faster than the previous time. Each round of healing helps the body, and supports it to be able to do more each time. You haven't undone your progress -you have developed in your body and habits a foundation for further healing. Your body will respond to each return to the program.

Cravings - The major keys are to: eat fatty protein at least every hour or so, and eat a stage-friendly food that addresses your craving. For example, if you crave chocolate, a stage-friendly food containing lots of cocoa's magnesium will likely relieve the craving. If cravings are intense, Dr Natasha suggests adding a bit of honey to some coconut oil or butter and eating a few spoons of that every twenty minutes or so.

All my best,
Baden

Hi Doug,

Welcome to the community! Good to have you with us...

Thanks for your comment -I always appreciate hearing where a matter needs more clarity.

On GAPS, we don't necessarily avoid pasteurized milk. That is, the optimal choice is raw, but many people cannot access this, either due to cost, regional laws, travel required to obtain it, etc. Thus, many people doing GAPS do need to use the only milk they can access -pasteurized. Pasteurized milk should be heated before fermentation. Raw milk does not need to be, though heating it may result in a more consistent product. Slowly and gently heating raw milk to just below the boiling point is considered within GAPS to be much "kinder" to the milk than commercial pasteurization is.

Does this help?

All my best,
Baden

Hi Susan,

While you are taking it, it may hamper healing to some degree, but it will also bring benefits, and the balance of healing can take effect after the course of medicine. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

GAPS may or may not help relieve your body of tapeworm. Ultimately, with sufficient healing we don't need to worry about parasites (likely present in all of us) unless they are specifically causing issues (symptoms), in which case we would indeed take something to resolve the issue.

All my best,
Baden
