I’ve confessed before that on any given day, I tend to do only about “80% GAPS”. By that, I don’t mean I eat a plate of spaghetti or yams, but rather that I don’t quite get around to doing every aspect of the protocol every single day. That is, there is no day during which I eat fermented vegetables and take a detox bath and take all three different oils. At one point recently, I noticed the state of affairs was worse than I wanted to admit: I hadn’t taken any of the oils (or the liver pills or SeaGreens or raw coconut oil) for many weeks. When I explored this with a friend, I realized I felt overwhelmed lining up all the bottles and jars every day and going at their contents.
So, I’ve made a chart and popped it onto my fridge. It takes into account that I have no trouble incorporating raw butter, kefir from raw milk and pickles on a daily basis; it only lists the foods I tend to ignore.
Monday
Cod Liver Oil
Tuesday
SeaGreens
Wednesday
Fish Oil
Thursday
Liver Pills
Friday
Sauerkraut
Saturday
Nut/Seed Oil
Sunday
Raw Coconut Oil
Now, the fact is I adore sauerkraut and often grab some several times per week. But there have been stretches where I haven’t done that. This chart does not limit my intakes to once a week, but simply guarantees at least a minimal ingestion.
Granted, this may not be ideal, but it’s the best I can do right now, and each of these foods once a week is certainly better than never. Of note is that a study recently stated that Cod Liver Oil has the same results whether taken in a larger dose once per week or in smaller daily ones.

That’s such a great idea, Baden. I am still working on a system, starting up with my son to address autism and now, I’m thinking about myself. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, for me, with 4 kids and a husband, so making a schedule and posting it is a great way to get into the habit. Thank you, for all the information you are sharing about your journey to health.
God bless,
Sheila
Hi Baden, great post. I have struggled off and on in taking supplements. Lately I have stopped taking vitamins and minerals, instead focusing on good foods and oils. While I don’t have a schedule, I do like you and just try to get my coconut oil, butter, sauerkraut, cod liver oil, etc at least once a week. These are ‘food’ like supplements anyway, so I don’t think they need to be taken everyday at the same time as some medications or supplements might need to be.
