A friend’s husband recently went through hospitalization and surgery for a heart condition. While in hospital, he contracted the rather common c difficile. When my friend asked me for suggestions, I gave the usual GAPS ones. Even though this fellow is not on GAPS, he found success with the s boulardii and probiotic foods. My friend said she subsequently overheard her husband saying, “I didn’t know that food could heal.’” This shook me. It shook me because my friend and her husband are very intelligent, engaged, educated people (one is a nurse and the other a school principal) who have reached retirement and beyond without having known that foods can heal. I think this speaks volumes about why we need to spread the word. I know that this man’s words both summarize the reason I work so hard to promote GAPS and energize me to continue doing so.
D: May your recovery be speedy and full. May you come to know, throughout your entire being, just how true it is that foods can heal.

So true! I was just commenting to a friend today how much my brain is not a part of the regular world anymore – how could people NOT know? And yet I realize, we’re the fringe, we’re outside the box, we’re the minority. For most people to drink nothing but soda is normal, and to drink water is weird. At least in Western culture. This concept alone is so foreign to me, yet so prevalent.
I am curious, I have been trying different pro-biotics to help out with my IBS but I have found it increasingly difficult because I do not eat dairy and many are based in dairy somehow. Any suggestions on which strains might help? My main issue is with gas and cramping.
Hi Marissa,
Are you doing either SCD or GAPS for your IBS, or only probiotics? (I would definitely recommend a full program.) Some dairy-free ones, as recommended in GAPS Guide, are:

If you ask your question on the GAPShelp support list, you may get additional leads.
I hope this information is helpful.
